The Uganda Law Society [ULS] is appealing to The Government to ring fence oil and gas legal services to local firms to protect legal professionals from the highly competitive global industry.
ULS president Simon Peter Kinobe said during a meeting with officials from the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) that the society has capacity to provide legal services to the oil and gas sector.
PAU said will soon organize a conference on the required legal services in the oil sector, as part of its role in promoting inter-sector linkages, according to Ali Sekatawa, the Director, Legal and Corporate Affairs.
“The law requires that suppliers of goods and services to Uganda’s oil and gas industry are sourced from the NSD [National Suppliers Database]. The first step, therefore, is to ensure you are registered,” Sekatawa advised legal practitioners.
